So what does an engaged workforce look like?
The tell-tale signs are quite easy to see once you know what you are looking for. If I was to ask employee (A) how they felt twice a year, I could expect a reasonably consistent answer. They may say “Yeah ok. It's a job and I know I will get paid every month. I try and do my job well, but it's pretty boring so sometimes it does not get my full attention." If I asked employee (B) the same question, I may get back an answer like “I wish we had more communication from the Management. It would be great if we could have regular team meetings with a Director so that we could go through our concerns, especially some Health & Safety issues I am concerned about." I will leave it up to you to decide who is engaged and who is not, but if you never ask, you will never find out anyway.
