Redundancies in the RecessionEntered by: Jon Rush @ 13:35:42 on 30/04/09 In these times of recession, redundancy seems to be one of the most widely used words by all tiers of management at the moment. Having been through a number of redundancy programmes as a manager, I can say that this is a very challenging time for SME businesses. There are a few things to remember when considering a redundancy programme to make the process as smooth and painless as possible for all concerned:- - Do follow the Statutory Redundancy process as set out by current Employment legislation - Do make sure that if you have limited redundancy experience, you engage a qualified professional to advise you - Do make sure the employees being selected for redundancy are the right ones for the business and not for personal reasons - Do ensure that the business continuity will not be affected by losing key people by mistake or misunderstanding - Do communicate the future business plan with existing employees as soon as possible after the redundancy process has been completed - Don't select "First In Frst out" - Don't let rumour and hearsay disrupt staff morale If the above hints are adhered to, your redundancy process should be completed with a minimum of disruption and stress.
